The Guild of Enamellers annual Conference and AGM is being held in Nottingham this year, between 9-11th April at Nottingham University Park Campus.

It promises to be another great weekend, full of workshops, talks and demonstrations, with time to network with other Guild members, tutors and enamel suppliers and generally get ‘fired up’ in every sense of the word!

One of the highlights of this years Conference is the Exhibition of Japanese Enamels along with the visit of Mr Toshihide Ueeda, who has come all the way from Japan to share his knowledge of enamelling on Art Clay with the Guild. Mr Ueeda, who is a standing director of the Japan Enamelling Artist Association and technical supervisor of Aida Chemical Industries Co. Ltd, pioneered the use of the low binder version of Art Clay Silver. He has developed his own quick firing technique, which he will demonstrate to members at both the Guild Master Class and by tutoring one of the six workshops during the Conference weekend.

The Conference programme also includes an Art Attack session on arrival on the Friday afternoon, followed by dinner and the AGM. Later, Dorothy Cockrell will give a demonstration of the Guild’s new acquisition!

There will be six workshops, which run throughout the day on the Saturday and the topics are as follows,

Basse Taille Brooch in a Day, Tutor Jane Short
Cloisonné, Tutor Dorothy Cockrell
Enamel on Art Clay, Tutor Mr Toshihide Ueeda
Fold Forging and Press Forming, Tutor Jill Leventon
Stencils for Enamelling, Tutor Lesley Miller
Torch Firing Copper Beads, Tutor Janet Notman

Later there will an after dinner talk by Dale Deveraux Barker; title ‘An Accidental Enameller’.

Finally, on the last day of Conference, there will be the Awards Presentations to all those members who have won awards for work submitted for the Conference Exhibitions and ‘Selection’, followed by the Master Class from Mr Toshihide Ueeda. A great line up for any enamel enthusiast – we look forward to seeing you there.
