Conference 2007 - Workshop 4

CLOISONNÉ with Ruth Ball

This workshop will explore the creative possibilities of cloisonné; develop drawn elements and the visually expressive qualities of line.  Students will make samples, watch short demonstrations and have the opportunity to make a finished cloisonné piece, which will be set as a small pendant.
Demonstrations will include: how to transfer designs; applying wires to a fluxed surface and building up a design; using different gauges of wire/rectangular and round; applying fine cloisonné wire as a drawing element over final surfaces for use as an added embellishment or design feature; using simple low tech methods to create repetitive shapes; finishing and setting techniques.
There will be a wide range of enamelled samples on display to illustrate the diversity of enamel approaches.  There will be the opportunity to experiment and develop ideas in this informal workshop.
