Conference 2007 - Workshop 3

LINE EMBOSSING for enamel with Dorothy Cockrell C.G.E.

Embossing fine lines on thin metal can give the appearance of bold cloisonné or even the effect of champlevé or basse taille.  After practising the controlled raising of lines and different methods of texturing a design on thin pewter, students will move on to work on a small piece of fine silver. Some transparent enamel will be applied by wet laying, dried and fired.
If desired, the finished piece can be mounted on a readymade setting for use as a brooch or pendant.
The technique can also be used on copper shim, but for reasons connected with fire scale and time, it will not be used in this workshop.  If you have never worked on silver before, now is your chance to try.  No previous metal working experience is required.
